Highbury Draft Centre Plan

Updated by Carol Scott August 2006

Since 2004 North Shore City Council has been exploring issues and consulting with the public on a Draft Centre Plan for Highbury, titled “Unlocking Highbury’s Potential”.

The Plan is part of Council’s response to the Auckland Regional Growth Strategy which identifies Highbury as potentially an “intensive centre”, indicating a clear intention to encourage growth in the number of people living in and close to Highbury.

Amongst key objectives of the Plan are initiatives to allow for intensification of apartment buildings by such measures as increases in permitted height.

A final version of this Plan has now been adopted and will be available on Council’s website www.northshorecity.govt.nz. Work is currently underway in relation to the implementation of the Plan but is subject to funds becoming available through Council’s funding processes and statutory processes under the Resource Management Act and Local Government Act.

Birkenhead Residents’ Association encourages residents to make themselves aware of the Highbury Centre Plan and to use any opportunity available to comment on what it proposes.
